Algeria is a Northern-African country part of the Maghreb, in between Morocco and Tunisia, and bordering the Mediterranean sea under France. It is a large country and most of its territory is made up of dessert, such as the Sahara, which is mostly deserted except for the occasional Tuareg, a nomadic people that lives in the desert and travels by camel. Algiers is the capital of this exotic country and can be a wonderful ravel destination.

There is a lot to see in this vibrant city. Although Arabic is the main language, most people also speak French fluently, and the occasional merchant is versed in English. Included in Algiers’ popular attractions is the Casbah. During the French colonial times, the Casbah was the Arab quarter of the city. It is a confusing place to visit though without a knowledgeable guide.

You will also find many mosques like the famous Grand Mosque, and landmarks made to honor those who fought to free Algeria from French colonization back in the 1800s. Youare sure to find your gold when you make your way through labyrinth of souks, or street markets, and will be taken away by the colorful buildings and outdoor music that regularly fills the air.

It is hard to find a person who has never heard of the great Michelangelo’s sculpture, “David.” Even if they do not know it by name, most people have seen it in pop culture or in Academic settings. One of the greatest masterpieces of the Renaissance, the statue was meant to be erected in the Florence Cathedral, but was deemed too exceptional to be kept in closed quarters. In the Fall of 1504, the statue of David was placed in the Piazza della Signoria.

The Florentines at the time were speechless before its reveal and called it the greatest representation of the spirit of the New Republic. This work is significant in Italy’s history, but also served as a milestone in young Michelangelo’s already blossoming art career. He was called back to Rome by the Pope himself, where he then completed another one of his masterpieces, the Sistine Chapel.

There are many lovely sights to see, shops to visit, prices to shriek at, and history to cultivate. One place of interest is the Museum of Political History for the history buffs.

This grand museum is full of information on Russia’s political history, and present. The museum officials work hard to stay up to date on political affairs. It is hard to say that the information is complete and unbiased. The country of Russia is not known for political transparency after all. San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge Celebrates 75th Brithday

On May 26 and 27 of 2012, San Francisco, California, will be celebrating one of its greatest attractions and public utilities: The Golden Gate Bridge. The iconic bridge has been faithfully enabling travel from Oakland to San Francisco for 75 years now, since May 27, 1937. This lasting symbol of American ingenuity and progress is anchored by the stunning Golden Gate National Parks on either side.

It has been called the “Gateway to the Pacific” and remains to this one a technological and engineering marvel at 1.7 miles long. The 33rd Annual Montreal International Jazz Festival will be taking place from June 28 to July 7 this year! The 2012 selection looks promising. A number of artists from different jazz music sub-genres will be performing in locations throughout Montreal. Big names like Seal, Norah Jones, Liza Minnelli, James Taylor, Janelle Monáe and Al Stewart will be gracing Montreal with their presence, alongside a few more underground or cult artists such as Cascadeurs, Melody Gardot, Céu, and Lila Downs. Some performances are free and others demand a cover charge. All of the outdoor performances are free and open to he public, and surrounded by stands and activities for all ages.
